About Mesta Meadows
Mesta Meadows is a fine wool farm located in the beautiful Ozark Highlands. Our focus is producing the finest wool possible for our fiber artisan customers. Our Rambouillet and Cormo sheep produce ultra fine wool which we provide to our customers across North America. Our focus on fine fiber begins with our genetics. Our foundation Rambouillet sheep come from one of the best wool flocks in the United States, the Erk Ranch in South Dakota. Our Cormo sheep were selected from excellent flocks in Illinois and West Virginia. Our management practices are focused on optimizing wool quality through our feeding practices, clean pasture program, and by coating our ewes. When we harvest wool, we hire professional sheerers experienced in fine wool sheep (to minimize second cuts), we have a crew which carefully skirts and grades the wool, and then we roll the fleeces in paper (noodling) to ensure good air flow while also protecting the wool from contamination. Finally, we test our wool using a professional lab for micron (size), comfort factor, and other key wool characteristics. We use this information both for informational purposes for our customers and to guide our breeding and management program to keep improving the wool quality with every generation!
In addition to selling wool, Mesta Meadows provides Registered Rambouillet breeding stock and registered working Great Pyrenees livestock guard dogs for the small - mid-size farm operation. We also raise registered Scottish Highland Cattle as members of the Ozark Highland Cattle Company partnership. We welcome visitors and encourage you to come see our sheep and cattle. We are located 2 1/2 hours southwest of St. Louis, about 2 1/2 hours north of Memphis, and 45 minutes west of Cape Girardeau.

High-Quality Wool
About our Flocks
Great wool starts with great sheep. Rambouillet (also called French Merino) are excellent dual purpose (fiber and meat) sheep. Their wool is soft, with excellent crimp to create warmth and bounce, and luxuriant 3" to 4" staple length. They are great mothers and our flock averages 1.5 lambs per ewe per year. Our Cormo sheep are an Australian breed which were developed by crossing Corriedale and Merino sheep. Their wool is long (up to 5" or more) with excellent softness and crimp.
